Eight Time Professional Windsurfing World Champion.

it is Feb and we are in Rybnik, a small town in the south of Poland. Here is the only lake not frozen as the water is heat by a power station. The water is still cold but today should be 5 to 10 degrees air temp with some sun. The wind is blowing already so we go training.

It was a very tough week with the whole top 20 sailors sailing really fast with a large variety of wind and water conditions to adapt to over the week.
I had a really hard time to find my focus and rhythm early on in the event with so many sailors sailing much faster than me and with the tricky conditions.
The location was great though, with great access to the water with very warm conditions and great organization.
I was incredibly stoked to take this win ahead of such a tough fleet in such tough conditions.
Also to be on such close points to Wojtek 2008 FW World Champion to be all down to the last race. With such a strong competitor, this made the last race so exciting and challenging, which just made my victory much more amazing after such a great fight.
It was also really nice to feel most of the fleet behind me to win when it came down to the last race on the last day between Wojtek and myself. I think as many of us felt Wojtek was in first from a controversial redress in one race in which he had a couple of crashes in and was far back, but a mark had drifted a little where a boat had to quickly put it back to position affecting all of us. But Wojtek protested this getting a good redress for a race that was already quite bad. So I was really happy to have the chance to have the last race in the final minutes of the last day to have the chance to win with him. In this race I did not think to win the race, but just to cover Wojtek and keep him well behind me which worked well giving me the win in the end.

Also last year I had the longest break that I ever had from windsurfing being around 6 to 7 months off the water so I am really happy to return to having such a great season. Stoked.

I am incredibly stoked to win all three events in Poland. Euro Challenger, followed by, the Gran Prix Allegro Cup in Leba, followed by, Gran Prix in Sopot combined with the European championships.

Steve Allen just won the Euro Challenger event in Rewal Poland 24 – 26 Jully. Followed by another win at the Allegro Cup Gran Prix 29 – 02 August in Leba Poland making it the 5th time in a row that Steve won this event.

It was an amazing achievement for me to win these events again as I had just had the longest break that I had ever had from windsurfing. Over the long Polish winter and taking part in the Dancing with Stars contest made for around 7 months off the water.
I am really stoked to be back on the board and back in the top again.
I was very disappointed though after breaking my best in the last race of the Euro Challenger event in Rewal.
This made it much more difficult to win in Leba as my speed was quite a bit less on my other fin, meaning I had to race better.

I am now in Sopot Poland for the second Gran Prix event which is also the FW European Championships, from the 4th – 8th August.
I am currently in 2nd after the first two days of racing with the points very close as we have been racing in a split fleet format.
Tomorrow we will switch to split the fleet into Gold and silver groups, meaning all the top guys will finally be racing against each other for the first time in the event. So the real racing starts.

Steve Allen finished 3^rd at the PWA slalom event in Costa Brava.

I was able to get some good training in before this event where I was able to tune my gear very well to feel very fast and comfortable with my gear.

Round one,

1^st heat, the pin end of the start line seemed to be favored  with also making a shorter distance to the first mark. So I chose to start down there and pulled out a good lead to qualify easily. …Read more »
